Lieutenant Colonel Ken Knotts, USMC (Ret.), Senior Naval Science Instructor, spoke to the Tipp City Rotary Club at their May 26 meeting about the Northmont High School's Navy ROTC Program.  He noted that the goal of NJROTC program is to help build patriotic citizens who are mindful of their duty to serve their community and their nation, without the requirement to join the military after high school.  The Northmont unit has 8 different varsity-level competition teams, and offers a number of opportunities for cadets to participate in community service as well as numerous chances throughout the year to march in parades and compete in drill competitions all over the nation. Pictured are Lieutenant Colonel Ken Knotts and Program Chairperson Dr. Terry Allemang.

The Tipp City Rotary Club hosted four Tippecanoe High School students who recently participated in the Science Fair program at the May 19, 2010 meeting.  This year the efforts of the students, teachers and STEAM volunteers have really paid off.  14 Tipp students competed at the District Science Day, CSU, March 20.  10 received Superiors and became eligible to go on to the State level.
7 additional awards were received by Tipp students including over $600 in prizes.  The Tipp City Rotary Club pays for the District Science Fair entry fees for Tippecanoe Students.  The State Science Day was Saturday, May 8th, where over 1100 Ohio students competed, including nine from Tippecanoe.  8 additional awards or scholarships were received, including two potential scholarships by Andrew Abboud.  Steven Chaney received a 4 year pin for his continued participation at the State level.  While the students competed individually, their combined efforts secured the
Ohio Academy of Sciences' "Harold C. Shaw Memorial Outstanding School Award" for Tipp City Schools, not once, but twice!  Only six other Ohio schools received the award, and the Tipp City School District was the only district to have both its high school and middle school qualify.  Among the criteria listed, a school must have four or more students earn a superior score on their project.  Each year District 10 officials select 2 out of approximately 450 projects to send to the International Science and Engineering Fair.  This year a Tipp Student, Andrew Abboud was selected as a Finalist.  He spent all of last week in San Jose, California.  Pictured (left to right) are Andrew Abboud (11th grade), Steven Chaney (11th grade), Chris Bruening (12th grade), & Briana Schultz (12th grade).
