The Troy Area Chamber of Commerce announced today that its Women’s Leadership Connection  will hold its monthly luncheon meeting on July 1,  2010, 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm at The Crystal Room, in Troy.   The July 1st topic is:  ”UVMC Health Update” – the information will provide participants with a unique combination of tools to navigate health care in the future.

Health care as we have known it is being drastically changed by federal and state legislation.   How it will change, and what dramatic impact those changes will have for Americans, is still being determined.    Information is coming out daily on how the sweeping government reforms will be implemented.    The 24/7 news cycle barrage of information can be overwhelming and confusing.

Our purpose is to make you aware of the changes, and their potential effects on you and your family.   Come and hear from the top health care leader in our area—Mike Maiberger—about what we can expect in the future, both nationally and locally.

This is a “must-attend” program for those individuals interested in learning how to navigate health care in the future.

A question and answer period will conclude the presentation.

The presenter for the workshop is Michael Maiberger:   Mr. Maiberger joined the UVMC health system in the role of hospital administrator in 1992 and was promoted to Vice President/COO in 1994 and Executive Vice President/COO in 1998.  He assumed the position of President/COO in November 2007.

The Women’s Leadership Connection (WLC) is dedicated to empowering women in building their careers.  WLC is an inspiring networking group that supports each other in nourishing the growth and development of their career.

Cost to attend:  $12.50 for luncheon.   RSVP by June 4, noon:  937 339-8769

The Troy Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will once again be in their distinctive red blazers this Thursday afternoon for the grand re-opening of the Tim Horton's restaurant on Main Street In Troy. The ribbon cutting ceremony with restaurant owner Ryan Holland will take place at approximately 4:30pm this Thursday in front of the recently remodeled storefront.

Opened in 2004, the restaurant has completed a complete inside and exterior retrofit to transform the traditional Tim Horton's location into a self described experimental "cafe & bake shop", also extending it's offerings to fresh deli sandwiches and more in addition to the standard coffee and doughnuts.

More on Tim Horton's from Wikipedia:

Tim Hortons Inc. is a Canadian coffee shop known for its coffee and doughnuts. It was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton and Jim Charade, after an initial venture in hamburger restaurants.[3][4] In 1967 Horton partnered with investor Ron Joyce, who quickly took over operations after Tim Horton died in a car crash in 1974, and expanded the chain into a multi-million dollar franchise. Jim Charade left the organization in 1966 and briefly returned in 1970 and 1993 through 1996.

Tim Hortons franchises spread rapidly and eventually overtook McDonald's as Canada's largest food service operator. The company opened twice as many Canadian outlets as McDonald's[5] and system-wide sales also surpassed those of McDonald's Canadian operations as of 2002.[6] The chain accounted for 22.6% of all fast food industry revenues in Canada in 2005.[5] Tim Hortons commands 76% of the Canadian market for baked goods (based on the number of customers served) and holds 62% of the Canadian coffee market (compared to Starbucks, in the number two position, at 7%).[7]

As of September 27, 2009, Tim Hortons has 3,527 systemwide restaurants, including 2,971 in Canada and 556 in the United States.[8]

Tim Hortons has an international presence including outlets in the United States, including one opened in Detroit and owned by former NBA player Derrick Coleman and one on a military base outside Kandahar, Afghanistan.[9][10][11] Two more outlets are located in military bases at Fort Knox, Kentucky[12] and Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia.[13] Tim Hortons' other international expansions include a small outlet at the Dublin Zoo. Tim Hortons also made a deal with the SPAR convenience store chain in the UK and Ireland, resulting in Tim Hortons coffee and doughnuts being sold at small self service counters in 50 SPAR stores as of April 30, 2007.[14]
