Vandals Strike Roadside In West Milton 03/30/2010
The West Milton police are investigating a series of vandalism complaints on the village's west side this week. At least five reports of vehicles having windows shattered by what is speculated as a bb pellet gun or small caliber firearm in the vicinity of Jay Street and Main Streets during the overnight hours on Saturday and Sunday. Those with information on these incidents are encouraged to contact the West Milton Police at (937) 698-2677. Don't tell Amber Veihl that her household isn't a family. For the Troy resident and mother, Veihl ran up against a legal city of Troy policy when applying for a 2010 family pool membership for the public Troy Aquatic Park adjacent to Hobart Arena and Troy Memorial Stadium on Monday. The city would not allow her to purchase a discounted membership reserved for families...to which the city recognizes as "legally married" couples and their children. Unfortunately for Veihl, who resides with her unmarried female partner and their children, she was told by recreation department staff that she would be ineligible for the family membership despite Veihl's claim that she had purchased a family membership at the Tipp City public pool last summer. According to our sources, Veihl then brought up the possibility of legal action towards the city, despite a 2009 legal evaluation and ultimate determination that the current policy is legal and within the city's rights to uphold, on the eligibility of family memberships and it's definition in 2009 by the city's legal team. In an interview Tuesday afternoon with a Dayton news agency, to which Veihl contacted, she questioned "who is the city of Troy to tell me we're not a family?" Apparently, they are the one's who determine how much she pays to enjoy the five year old TAP. For more information on purchasing a TAP membership as well as dates and times of operation, visit the all new www.HobartArena.com. The Museum of Troy History, 124 E. It is the twenty-sixth year Tipp City has earned this national recognition. The awards will be presented in Montgomery, OH on April 23, 2010. Tipp City also received a Tree City USA Growth Award for demonstrating progress in its community forestry program in the following activity areas:
The prestigious Growth Award honors environmental improvement and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. Tipp City has met the four standards to become a Tree City USA community. Tree City USA communities must have a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. “Communities that are honored with a Tree City USA designation and a Growth Award make a strong commitment to planting and caring for trees, and we applaud their efforts,” said John Rosenow, chief executive and founder of the Arbor Day Foundation. “We also commend a community’s elected officials, volunteers and its citizens for providing needed care for its trees. They recognize that trees provide numerous environmental, economical and health benefits for the community every day.” More information about Tree City USA can be found at www.arborday.org/TreeCityUSA.
