Bruins Shut Down Wooster With Thrilling 5-4 Shootout Victory On Sunday Afternoon

Troy, OH - The Troy Bruins finished the weekend by avenging a tough loss on Saturday to in-state rival Wooster Oilers with a solid performance on Sunday afternoon inside the historic Hobart Arena, coming from behind to score the tying goal with just seconds left in regulation, and decimating the Oilers in a sudden death shootout to secure the 5-4 victory.

While the Oilers would score the lone goal in the first twenty minutes of play, Troy's Justin Laconte got the Bruins on the board at the 11:04 mark of the second off a setup pass from Moscow, Russia native Egor Pogodin-Alekeev and Serov, Russia native Gleb Luchnikov to tie the game at one a piece.  The celebration would be short lived, as the Oilers bounced in a rebound goal less than a minute later to recapture the lead, before Bruins defenseman Kyle Pierson scrambled in front of the Wooster net to piece together Troy's second tying goal of the afternoon and set off the crowd once more. Yet, the Bruins would find themselves under pressure with time ticking down in the period, before Wooster would bounce in a garbage rebound in front of netminder Alex Kuzmenko with a heartbreaking ten seconds remaining. After two periods, Troy skated into the dressing room once again trailing by a goal, with Wooster outshooting the Bruins 25-21.

Troy's veteran captain Lee McClure led his team in the third, wasting little time rushing into the Oilers zone and burying a snapshot from the slot to spoil the third Wooster lead of the afternoon, assisted by linemates Aaron Huber and Derek McPherson at the 4:13 mark. Like a "fly in the ointment", Oilers captain Curtis Megginson stunned the crowd with a goal at the 11:25 mark to once again take the lead. Time continued to wear away in regulation, and while the Oilers tried to protect their lead, Shane Hicke's Troy Bruins maintained their focus, and stepped up their intensity. With the crowd at on the feet, Troy's last offensive rush of the third period was enough for a setup to Huber, who lit the lamp with just 11.4 showing on the scoreboard, to tie the game 4-4 after sixty minutes of hockey.

As per NJHL rules, the game proceeded directly into a five man sudden-death shooutout, the first in team history at home, and the second this season against the Oilers (Oilers won the lone prior shootout against the Bruins in Wooster).

After Wooster's first shooter was stopped by Kuzmenko, Troy's McClure stepped onto the ice and deked the goaltender to light the lamp and take a 1-0 lead in the shootout. Wooster's lone shootout goal would come from Brandon McPhail, but it would not be nearly enough as Troy's Luchnikov and McPherson each scored to secure the 5-4 final.

With the 5-4 win, the Bruins advance their record to 19-11-1, and remain in solid second place in the NJHL.

Many people take no care of their money till they come nearly to the end of it, and others do just the same with their time.
