Troy, OH - The Troy Bruins are proud to announce that forward Justin Locante has been called up by the Texas Tornado of the North American Hockey League for a tryout opportunity.
Locante, a native of South Park, Pennsylvania, heads to Frisco, Texas with an impressive 18 goals, 26 assists for 44 points in 25 games as a Bruin this season.
"Justin is certainly one of the strongest players on and off the ice, and his hard work and determination allows him to utilize his talents as a gritty and physical forward to get this opportunity to advance his career in the North American Hockey League, especially with such a successful program in the Tornado" noted Bruins head coach Shane Hicke. "He should be very excited to be headed to such an elite program, as the Tornado have won their league championship four times in the last ten years and playing in a first-class facility (Dr Pepper Arena)."
Bruins President and General Manager Rick Szabo added "This is a wonderful step for our organization, with our primary goal being to provide elite young players that stepping stone to help advance their careers. We wish Justin the best, and are dedicated to continuing our work with the local youth hockey programs in an effort to offer these opportunities to our local aspiring players as well in the years to come."
Locante joined the Tornado on the road this past week when they traveled to take on the first place Topeka (Kansas) Roadrunners on Friday and Saturday nights. As luck would have it, Locante will be in familiar company in the Texas locker room, with former Pittsburgh Hornets U18 teammate David Rigatti and former Troy High School hockey standout Fred Edwards is in his first season as goaltender for the Tornado.
The Bruins return to action for a pair of home games inside the historic Hobart Arena this weekend as they host the Jamestown Jets for the first time in team history Saturday night at 8pm and Sunday at 1:30. Tickets are only $7 at the doors, and for more information, call 985-PUCK or visit www.TroyBruins.com.
