BEATRICE L. JOHNSON
Beatrice L. “Bea” Johnson, 82, of 1403 Madison Ave., Piqua, went home to be with her Lord at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Heartland of Piqua. She was born December 1, 1927, in Piqua. She married Henry N. Johnson on September 10, 1949 in Piqua; he preceded her in death on September 25, 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald D. (Sandra) Johnson of Dayton, Duane N. (Ann) Johnson of Mount Vernon; a daughter Carol Sue Johnson of Piqua; grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson, Melissa Randall; adopted grandchildren, Cody Parker, and Zion Taylor; a brother, Doug Burns of Chillicothe; and a host of many more who affectionately knew her as Aunt Bea, Grandma and Granny. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Marion Taylor in 1954.
Mrs. Johnson was a 1945 graduate of Piqua Central High School. She was a member of Cyrene A.M.E. Church where she ministered as a pianist, and was a member of the former Park Avenue Baptist Church where she played piano for 38 years. Bea was a homemaker and was an avid bingo player and bowler, having held the house record for ladies high bowling game. She enjoyed music, playing in her euchre card clubs, and spending time with her family.
A Going Home service to celebrate her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Cyrene A.M.E. Church with Revs. Samuel A. Harris, Jr., John B. Vaughan Jr. co-officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home where a prayer service will be conducted at 4:00 pm with Rev. Fr. Betty N. Hart, 86, of 7111 W. State Route 36, Covington, died at 3:53 am Sunday March 21, 2010 at the Covington Care Center. She was born January 14, 1924 in Miami County to the late Jacob W. and Minnie Della (Hornbeck) Reaver. She married Marvin E. Hart in September 1942; he preceded her in death July 31, 1947 as a result of a tractor accident.
Survivors include a daughter, Katherine (Roger) Clark of Covington; seven grandchildren, Kelli J. Simon, Korinne (Jerry) Wages, Karmyn (Michael) Blackford, Christopher (Debie) Clark, M. Kathleen Hart, M. Kasey Hart, Karla S. Hart; great grandchildren, Joshua Simon and fiancé Jamie Houshel, Janell (Kenny) Tebbe, Justin Simon, Julianna Simon, Bethany Wages, Kaitlin Wages, Kayla Fissel, Lee Blackford, Amanda Blackford, Amy (David) Smith, Garrett Clark, Darren Clark, Seth Clark, Alexis Wehner and fiancé Justin Ballard, Morgan Wehner; and a great great grandson, Blake Ballard. Mrs. Hart graduated high school, and earned the distinction of the first female Supervisor with the Dayton Power & Light Co. having retired January 1987 where she supervised their facilities, equipment, and Tree Trimming Dept. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, and a former member of the Piqua Church of the Brethren and its Mothers Club. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
A celebration of her life will be conducted at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. James F. Wheeler officiating. Kenneth W. Blankenship, 77, of 825 Atlantic St., Troy, died at 10:42 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2010 at his residence. He was born August 19, 1932, in Greene County, to the late Walter E. and Martha (Rice) Blankenship. He married Opal May Swartz on September 22, 1951 in Pleasant Hill; she preceded him in death on December 18, 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Deb) Blankenship and Jeff (Illah) Blankenship, both of Piqua; five daughters, Peggy (Steve) Evans of St. Paris, Debbie Dysinger of Troy, Cindy (Randy) Lehman of Vandalia, Pauline (Perry) Sage of Piqua, and Della (Robert) Rike of Brookville; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Roger (Mildred) Blankenship of Lewisburg, Steve Blankenship of Brookville, Bruce Blankenship of Jackson, Tenn., Joe Blankenship and David Blankenship, both of California; and three sisters, Janice Thomas, June Ellen Blankenship, and Ondalee Blankenship, all of Gettysburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Blankenship; a brother, Marvin Blankenship; and a sister, Melissa Norvill.
Mr. Blankenship was a construction worker, truck driver and heavy equipment operator retiring in 1990 from Ernst Gravel Company. He enjoyed fishing and boating and was a member of the Piqua Fish & Game Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles #971 of Troy, and was a former member of the Amvets Post #66 of Covington.
A private celebration of his life will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled though the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, Piqua. Gladys M. Lindauer, 89, of 1744 W. High St., Piqua, died at 1:03 am Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Brookdale Sterling House of Piqua. She was born February 12, 1921 in Piqua to the late August and Alma (Gerstner) Lindauer. In addition, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia R. Lindauer. She is survived by many friends.
Miss Lindauer was a 1939 graduate of Piqua Central High School, and retired in 1986 having worked for many years in the Group Insurance Dept. of the Hobart Corporation in Troy. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Hobart Quarter Century Club, and the YWCA of Piqua.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 pm Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Shreffler officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Edna G. Uncapher, 89, of Piqua, died at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at her residence. She was born May 27, 1920 in Columbus, to the late William and Blanche (Ellis) Bybee. She married Robert L. Uncapher on October 27, 1940 in Russell, Kentucky; he preceded her in death on June 21, 1976.
Mrs. Uncapher is survived by a son Robert (Debra) Uncapher of Johnson City, Tenn.; two daughters, Susan (Richard) Hodges of Pleasant Hill and Judith (Terrence) Paganelli of Florence, Ala.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Blanche Morin of Westerville and Thelma Hulet of Gahanna; and a brother, Charles (Lethia) Bybee of Pataskala. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Edna graduated from Central High School in Columbus and moved to Piqua in 1955 when her husband was transferred to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She worked as a secretary for Miller-Meteor Company, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and retired from the Piqua Social Security Office in 1980 after 20 years of employment. She was a committee member of the former Piqua Professional and Business Women’s Organization.
After retirement, Edna spent her time volunteering for many local organizations, including Piqua Manor Nursing Home where she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year in 1988, Communities Alive where she received the Hidden Hero Award for Miami County, and the Bethany Center, where she organized the clothing bank. She was an active member of Piqua Church of Christ. Edna enjoyed cooking, gardening, crafts, and traveling with Susan’s family to Illinois, Georgia, Missouri, and Michigan Mountain Men camps where she was known as “Granny”. She collected Norman Rockwell painting, Milk glass and Depression pink glass. She was a loving mother and sister, who will be deeply missed.

Patricia A. Creger, 70, of 321 Second St., Piqua, died at 5:40 pm Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at her residence. She was born November 26, 1939 in East Liberty to the late Pearl and Hazel (Cook) Boysel.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey L. Creger of Piqua; a daughter, Lori D. Aboulabroud of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister Mary Collinsworth of Bellefontaine; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Creger was a graduate of Byhalia York High School in Union Co., and retired in 2007 as a Customer Service Representative through Extra Help. She enjoyed her family, friends and reading.

Elizabeth I. Ivers, 97, of Piqua, formerly of Hillsboro, died at 4:35 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. She was born September 28, 1912, in Highland County, to the late Virgil and Laura (Bobb) Shelton. She married James O. Ivers on November 15, 1934; he preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Ivers is survived by a daughter, Betty Johnson of Piqua; four grandchildren, Sheila (Mark) Mace, Debbie (Tim) Branscum, Steve (Tami) Johnson, and Tricia (Scott) Atwood; 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Shelton; and two sisters, Ruby Duff and Carol Ivers.
Elizabeth was a 1930 graduate of Highland High School and was a member of the New Market Baptist Church in Hillsboro. She worked as a homemaker and bookkeeper for the family farm.

DORRELL S. POLHAMUS
Dorrell S. Polhamus, 90, of Piqua, died at 4:12 am Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born July 3, 1919 in Shelby County to the late G. Franklin and Essie (Floyd) Polhamus. He married Barbara “Bobby” Garrison October 1, 1946 in South Orange, New Jersey, a marriage that would span sixty-three years; and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, William R. (Patricia) Polhamus of Westerville, Lawrence A. (Diane) Polhamus of Kissimmee, Fla.; daughter, Susan (Richard) Boeh of Clayton, N. C.; four grandchildren, Ryan (Kathleen) Polhamus of Yardley, Penn., Stephen (Sally) Polhamus of Rock Hill, S.C., James Boeh, and Carolynn Boeh both of Clayton, N. C.; and two great grandchildren, Braeden and Declan Polhamus. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Polhamus Bradley in 1990.
Dorrell graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1937 where he played varsity basketball for three years. He graduated from Miami University in 1941 where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. Following graduation he worked for Burroughs Adding Machine Co., and then for Firestone in Akron and Freemont, Nebraska. He served in the United States Army from 1943-1946 during World War II when he was discharged with the final rank of Captain. Later, he worked in the Finance Dept. of French Oil Mill Machinery Co. for twenty-seven years. During that time he became interested in the printing industry and eventually, with a partner, Joel Phillips, established a printing company, Quality Forms, located on State Route 36. On December 31, 2006 they sold the company and Dorrell retired at age 87. He served on the Board of Directors of Piqua National Bank/Fifth Third Bank of Western Ohio for fourteen years, Dettmer Hospital/Upper Valley Medical Center fourteen years, and the Piqua Country Club Board of Directors for two terms, and was a Life Board Member of the Piqua Community Foundation. He was a member of the Piqua Chamber of Commerce, Piqua Manufacturers Association, Piqua Rotary Club where he was distinguished as a Paul Harris Fellow, YMCA of Miami County, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, National Business Forms Association, Document Management Industries Association, was recognized in 1986 by the Piqua Civic Band for his contributions to the community, and was awarded the Small Business Person of the Year Award from the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce. He was the first elected official from the Fifth Ward to serve on the Commission for the City of Piqua having served from January 1950 through December 31, 1967. In addition to his family and friends, he enjoyed playing golf, and traveling around the world with his wife, children, and friends.

Dorrell S. Polhamus, 90, of Piqua, died at 4:12 am Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born July 3, 1919 in Shelby County to the late G. Franklin and Essie (Floyd) Polhamus. He married Barbara “Bobby” Garrison October 1, 1946 in South Orange, New Jersey, a marriage that would span sixty-three years; and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, William R. (Patricia) Polhamus of Westerville, Lawrence A. (Diane) Polhamus of Kissimmee, Fla.; daughter, Susan (Richard) Boeh of Clayton, N. C.; four grandchildren, Ryan (Kathleen) Polhamus of Yardley, Penn., Stephen (Sally) Polhamus of Rock Hill, S.C., James Boeh, and Carolynn Boeh both of Clayton, N. C.; and two great grandchildren, Braeden and Declan Polhamus. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Polhamus Bradley in 1990.

MONICA F. DODSON
Monica F. Dodson, 86, formerly of 808 W. Ash St., Piqua, died at 2:55 am, Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Covington Care Center. She was born April 5, 1923 in Medina to the late Royal L. and Frances F. (Schaffer) Burden. She married Terry J. Dodson who preceded her in death in 1978.
Survivors include a daughter, Katrinka “Kathy” (Mark “Butch”) Thompson of Piqua; a son J. D. (Sharon Mott) Dodson of Piqua; eight grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eleven brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Dodson was a homemaker, a member of the Covington V.F.W. and was active in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge # 3998 where she served as an officer for many years. She enjoyed the game of golf as evidenced by her years of volunteering for the Covington Eagles Golf Outing.
A celebration of her life will begin at 10:00 am Friday March 12, 2010 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Brooks Dodson and Tony Teague as facilitators. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Private interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Church Food Pantry, 200 W. Raymond A. “Red” Copsey, 95, of 606½ Riverside Dr., Piqua, died at 1:10 am Friday, March 5, 2010 at his residence. He was born January 31, 1915 in Greene County, Ohio to the late William Lawson and Hattie L. (Thomas) Copsey. He married Ruth V. DeNise July 29, 1937 in Winchester, Indiana; and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Sally (Donald) Apple of Piqua; two sons, Terry R. (Beverly) Copsey of Piqua, Randy A. (Constance) Copsey of Piqua; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, and a great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Copsey, a brother, and four sisters.
Mr. Copsey graduated from Houston High School in 1932. He owned and operated a Service Station and Carry-Out in Piqua for twenty years and then worked at J M Mold Company for twenty years. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #523 in Piqua.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 am Monday, March 8, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kazy Blocher-Hinds officiating.
