David H. Fogt - 69 11/17/2010

David H. Fogt, 69, of 600 Caldwell St., Piqua, died at 5:20 pm Monday November 15, 2010 at the
Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born July 29, 1941 in Piqua to the late Russell Manning and
Louise (Hudson) Fogt. He married Judith A. Norris January 19, 1963 at St. Mary Church in Piqua;
and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter Stephanie (Craig) D’Epifanio of Fairfield; a son James (Elizabeth)
Fogt of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Anthony, Victoria, Tara, and Jenna D’Epifanio and
Emma Fogt; and a sister Janalee Ritzhaupt. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Vincenzo
David D’Epifanio.
Mr. Fogt was a graduate of Piqua Central High School and attended the Ohio State University. He
possessed a long award-winning career as a professional photographer including a position as
Chief Photographer for the Piqua Daily Call Newspaper for over twenty-nine years retiring in the mid
1990’s. His work was honored numerous times and chosen to appear in many publications including
Life Magazine. He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church where he served as a
Eucharistic Minister, festival worker, RCIA sponsor and volunteer for many activities. His enjoyment
of history prompted his involvement with the Miami County Historical and Genealogical Society and
his curiosity of electronics was evidenced by his membership with the Piqua Amateur Radio Club.
Additionally, he enjoyed gardening, restoring his beautiful Victorian home and traveling with his wife,
Judith, including their annual trips to Florida. Among his many loves, his family was most important.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday November 19, 2010 at St. Mary
Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Grilliot as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Forest Hill
Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm Thursday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home

Virginia Mae Vetter, 88, of Piqua, died at 6:55 am Monday November 8, 2010. She was born January 23, 1922 in Piqua to the late Clarence C. and E. Marie (Morrow) Campbell. She married Lester J. Vetter January 26, 1943 in Piqua. He preceded her in death October 5, 2001. Survivors include two sons, James (Brenda) Vetter, John (Linda) Vetter all of Piqua; a daughter Vicki (Timothy) Reed of Piqua; six grandchildren, Joshua Vetter, Emily (Brian) Brookhart, Rachel (Nate)
Funderburg, Bethany (Curt) Shondell, Jennifer Vetter, Jon Vetter; and four great grandchildren, Evan Brookhart, Abby Brookhart, Marin Funderburg, Dane Funderburg. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Wanda (Clarence) Cron.
Mrs. Vetter was a 1939 graduate of Piqua Central High School. She was a homemaker and helped her husband as a bookkeeper for the Vetter Electric Service. She was an active member of the Congregational Christian United Church of Christ for over eighty years, having served as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Fellowship Advisor, Lantern Circle, and Choir member.
She was a volunteer for Favorite Hill School, Piqua Red Cross Crisis Committee, Piqua Arts Council,
Piqua Memorial Hospital as a Book Cart Lady, Gray Lady, charter member of the former Chaplains
Assistance Program, and served as a Hostess for the Piqua Civic Band concerts. She and her
husband served as the Heritage Festival Queen and King in 1989, and they enjoyed being active with
the Piqua Square Dance Club.
A celebration of her life will begin at 10:00 am Friday November 12, 2010 at the Jamieson & Yannucci
Funeral Home with Rev. William R. Hewitt officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Raymond C. Smith, 105, of 1068 Broadway, Piqua, died at 1:03 pm Sunday, July 11, 2010 at St. Leonard Health Care Center, Centerville. He was born May 7, 1905 in Piqua to the late Lawrence S. and Mattie L. (Cyphers) Smith. He married Ilene A. Hoopes May 29, 1928 in Covington; she preceded him in death January 28, 2000.
Survivors include a daughter Marolyn J. Holloway of Dayton; a son James L. (Marilyn) Smith of Summerfield, Florida; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother Lloyd (Virginia) Smith of Piqua. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and a grandson.
Mr. Smith was a 1923 graduate of Piqua Central High School and retired in 1965 as the Credit Manager for Gem City Finance of Dayton. He was a member of the Piqua Lions Club, Warren Masonic Lodge #24, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, the Willowbrook Hunt Club, the former Evangelical United Methodist Church and currently the Piqua Salvation Army Citadel. He was honored as the Miami County Senior Citizen of the Year, and a Grand Marshall of the Piqua Christmas Parade.

Scott N. Stewart, 22, of 128 Glenn St., Piqua, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2010, at his residence. He was born July 25, 1987, in Springfield, to Lester Stewart of North Hampton and Kimberly (Bradley) Fallen of Springfield.
Other survivors include three sisters, Sierra Rogers of Troy, Lacey Stewart of Springfield, and Tanya Rice of Springfield; and a brother, Rusty Levalley of Springfield.
Scott attended the Miami Valley CTC and was a carpenter and home remodeler.

Betty Jean Gray, 92, of 212 S. Main St. Piqua, died at 1:00 am Tuesday July 6, 2010 at her residence. She was born April 26, 1918 in Pleasant Hill to the late Irvin E. and Mary A. (Schulz) Whitman. She married Elmer Gray September 23, 1935 in Winchester, Indiana; he preceded her in death January 12, 1981.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Carlon of Orlando, Florida; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Whitman.

Mercia D. Richard, 88, of 403 Kitt St., Piqua, died Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10:30 pm at the Koester Pavilion. She was born September 2, 1921 in Bradford to the late Charles and Bessie (Miller) Sotell. She married Clarence J. Richard June 10, 1939; he preceded her in death January of 1973.
Survivors include two sons, Clarence (Vickie) Richard of Michigan, Jerry L. (Linda) Richard Sr. of Troy; three daughters, Judith Richard, Theresa Tipton and Barbara (Carl) Brush all of Piqua; twenty-four grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Larry, George, and Michael Richard, and twelve brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Richard worked for seventeen years at the Piqua Memorial Hospital as a linen clerk. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the YWCA of Piqua. She will be remembered for her deep love for her faith and family.

Earl E. Hoffman, 84, of 1045 Park Ave., Piqua, died Sunday June 27, 2010 at his residence. He was born March 31, 1926 in South Webster to the late Pete and Bessie Hoffman. He married Ruth A. Bays July 11, 1950 in South Webster; she preceded him in death January 23, 1998.
Survivors include a daughter Deborah L. (Randall L.) Weaver of Piqua; a granddaughter Maggie (Vaughn) Atkinson; two great grandchildren; and a sister Madalene Rawlins of South Webster. He was preceded in death by a brother.
Mr. Hoffman worked at the former Val Decker Meat Processing Plant for thirty-four years, then Hobart Brothers in Troy where he retired following twelve years of service.

Chad Turner, 93, of 610 First St., Piqua, died at 2:50 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born September 3, 1916 in Harlan, Kentucky, to the late William H. and Susan (Smith) Turner. He married Agnes Collins on January 6, 1938 in Putney, Kentucky; she preceded him in death on October 26, 1990.
Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn (Robert) Rapp of Zolfo Springs, Florida, Wanda (Ronnie) Pack of Piqua; five grandchildren, William D. Rapp, Debbie Gover, Korena Weber, Donald Rapp, and Katherine Silvers-Huber; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson; three brothers; and seven sisters.
Mr. Turner attended schools in Kentucky and retired from the Shipping Department of the former Miami Industries in Piqua. After his retirement, he worked part-time at the former Piqua East Mall. He enjoyed eating out at restaurants and traveling.
