![]() EARL E. HOFFMAN Earl E. Hoffman, 84, of 1045 Park Ave., Piqua, died Sunday June 27, 2010 at his residence. He was born March 31, 1926 in South Webster to the late Pete and Bessie Hoffman. He married Ruth A. Bays July 11, 1950 in South Webster; she preceded him in death January 23, 1998. Survivors include a daughter Deborah L. (Randall L.) Weaver of Piqua; a granddaughter Maggie (Vaughn) Atkinson; two great grandchildren; and a sister Madalene Rawlins of South Webster. He was preceded in death by a brother. Mr. Hoffman worked at the former Val Decker Meat Processing Plant for thirty-four years, then Hobart Brothers in Troy where he retired following twelve years of service. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Richard L. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. ALAN BRENT SNYDER Alan Brent Snyder, 69, formerly of 1555 Lexington Ave., Troy, died at 11:35 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2010, at Koester Pavilion, Troy. He was born November 21, 1940, in Piqua, to the late Leonard and Ruth (Adams) Snyder. He married Judith R. Leach on December 22, 1962 in Litchfield; she preceded him in death on June 21, 1989. He then married Candise Chrisman on January 7, 2000 in Troy; she survives. Mr. Snyder is also survived by two sons, Scott (Jenifer) Snyder of Lafayette, Ind., and Mark Aaron (Debbie) Laux of Dublin; three daughters, Susan Lewis of Bowling Green, Mona (Tim) Anderson of Troy, and Heather (William) Smith of Troy; and ten grandchildren, Kristen, Ethan, Cody, Billy, Caleb, Drew, Rachel, Hannah, Isabella, and Chloe. He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Snyder; and a grandson, Noah Anderson. Brent was a 1958 graduate of Piqua Central High School and attended Defiance College. He served in the Army National Guard and was a former member of the Congregational Christian United Church of Christ. He was also a former member of the Piqua Kiwanis Club, and worked for the Piqua Daily Call, Troy Daily News, and retired from Paxar Graphics. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Murdock officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. ![]() EARL T. STEINER Earl T. Steiner, 82, of 8165 Woodlawn Dr., Piqua, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born November 8, 1927, in Hillsdale County, Michigan, to the late Benjamin H. and Rhoda E. (France) Steiner. He married Phyllis J. Fackler on June 12, 1954 in Piqua; she preceded him in death on October 16, 2006. Mr. Steiner is survived by a son, Thomas (Cori) Steiner of Houston; two daughters, Ellen Steiner of Amelia, and Sue (Stuart) Collins of Westerville; and four grandchildren, Kevin Collins, Emily Collins, Jonathan Steiner, and Reagan Steiner. He was preceded in death by a brother, James P. Steiner; and a stepsister, Virginia Denman. Earl was a 1945 graduate of Piqua Central High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University and the Air Force Institute of Technology. He had worked for Cargill in Findlay and retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1992. He was a member of Piqua Baptist Church and former member of the former Evangelical United Methodist Church. Earl was also a member of the Gideons of Piqua, the Miami County Historical & Genealogical Society, and Warren Lodge #24 Free & Accepted Masons. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 25, at the Piqua Baptist Church with Rev. Donald R. Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. RUTH ELLEN BOGGS Ruth Ellen Boggs, 88, formerly of 437 Wood St., Piqua, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 in Coventry, Rhode Island, where she had resided with her daughter for the last 12 years. She was born April 30, 1922, in Piqua, to the late Bert and Caroline M. (Shuey) McMaster. She married Kenneth L. Boggs on July 21, 1942 in Bradford; he preceded her in death on May 20, 1993. Survivors include a daughter, Vicki (William) Noon of Coventry, R.I.; two sons, Kenneth Boggs of East Liverpool, and James (Joyce) Boggs of Beaver, Penn.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; and a great-grandson, Elijah M. Collins. Mrs. Boggs was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Brethren. MARK A.STEWART Mark A. Stewart, 34, of 6303 Ashley Meadows, Dayton, died at 1:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Reston Hospital in Reston, Virginia. He was born December 1, 1975, in Sidney, to Gary Stewart of Sidney and the late Sally (Martin) Stewart. He married Shannon R. Swiger on March 9, 2008 in Fairborn; she survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Arwyn Stewart at home; step-children, Quentin and Rhiann Freeman, both at home; a brother, Mike Stewart of Sidney; and a sister, Crystal Stewart of Sidney. Mr. Stewart was a graduate of Sidney High School and Wright State University, and was employed at Booz-Allen-Hamilton Engineering Co. as a research and Design Engineer. MARC A. CREAGER Marc A. Creager, 53, of 1534 South St., Piqua, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at his girlfriend’s residence in New Carlisle. He was born March 3, 1957, in Piqua, to the late Burl Creager and Virginia (Hartzell) Creager; his mother survives in Piqua. Other survivors include his girlfriend, Charlene Henderson of New Carlisle; two sisters, Pamela Bridges of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Melissa Creager of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Michael Creager of Columbus and Jeffrey Creager of Piqua; nieces Wendy Dysinger and Marissa Creager; nephew Jacob Creager; numerous nieces and nephews living out of state; and a son, Christopher Hale of Troy. Marc attended Piqua City Schools and was an excellent handyman. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, fishing, and working on his go-karts. ![]() CHAD TURNER Chad Turner, 93, of 610 First St., Piqua, died at 2:50 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Piqua Manor Nursing Home. He was born September 3, 1916 in Harlan, Kentucky, to the late William H. and Susan (Smith) Turner. He married Agnes Collins on January 6, 1938 in Putney, Kentucky; she preceded him in death on October 26, 1990. Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn (Robert) Rapp of Zolfo Springs, Florida, Wanda (Ronnie) Pack of Piqua; five grandchildren, William D. Rapp, Debbie Gover, Korena Weber, Donald Rapp, and Katherine Silvers-Huber; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson; three brothers; and seven sisters. Mr. Turner attended schools in Kentucky and retired from the Shipping Department of the former Miami Industries in Piqua. After his retirement, he worked part-time at the former Piqua East Mall. ![]() MARY “CAROL” WOODS Mary “Carol” Woods, 88, formerly of Piqua and Venice, Florida, died at 5:31 pm Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Trinity Nursing Home, Beavercreek. She was born May 17, 1922 in Troy to the late Walter E. and Carrie Mae (Lumpp) Barnett. She married Robert F. Woods July 12, 1941 in Troy; he preceded her in death August 6, 1999. Survivors include four daughters, Bobbie (Ray) Brooks of Xenia, Linda (John) Heasley of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Barbara Blankenbeckler of Wilmington, Marcia Smith of Kettering; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Helke, a brother, Howard Barnett, and a son-in-law, Kenneth Smith. Mrs. Woods was a 1940 graduate of Troy High School, and the office manager at Piqua Automotive, Inc. for thirty years. She was a former member of Piqua Baptist Church, YWCA of Piqua, and served seventeen years on the PTA at Favorite Hill Elementary School. Survivors include his mother, Darlene A. (Corbett) Farrell of Piqua; father, Duane (Patricia) Childers of Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, Sean Childers, Michael (Tara) Farrell all of Piqua; a sister Colleen Farrell of Piqua; maternal grandmother Evangeline Corbett of New Jersey; paternal grandmother Cecelia Giles of Ironton; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shaylene M. Farrell. Shane was a 2009 graduate of Piqua High School where he was on the Wrestling Team. He played football at Piqua Junior High School. He was currently a student attending Edison State College and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 pm Friday, June 11, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Grilliot as the Celebrant. ![]() DOROTHY M. FOX Dorothy M. Fox, 81, of 8325 N. Shady Lane, Piqua, died at 9:28 pm Sunday June 6, 2010 at her residence. She was born June 16, 1928 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to the late Matthew and Margaret (Black) McBride. She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Joseph F. Fox who she married September 5, 1958 in McKeesport. Other survivors include two sons, Glenn F. (Katie) Fox of Canal Winchester, Raymond (Tina) Fox of Piqua; four grandsons, Travis, Justin, Alex, Kyle; a sister, Margaret (Harold) Miller of Miami, Florida; a niece, nephew, a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Snyder of White Oak, Penn.; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean C. McBride. Mrs. Fox was a 1946 graduate of McKeesport High School and worked as a Supervisor for home office of the original G. C. Murphy Company. After locating in Piqua, she continued to raise her family and volunteered many hours at the Upper Valley Medical Center and the former Dettmer Hospital. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed her family.
