MAXINE B. WILLIAMS 


Maxine B. Williams, 92, of 1744 W. High Street, Piqua, died at 3:58 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Brookdale Sterling House of Piqua.  She was born January 7, 1918 in Greenville to the late Harrison and Norma (Weaver) Buirley.  She married Robert G. Williams on April 11, 1937 in Fort Wayne, Ind.; and he survives. 


Other survivors include two daughters, Marilyn (James) Smith of Summerfield, Fla., and Nancy (Marvin “Sandy”) DeBerry of Savannah, Ga.; three grandchildren, Michael (Patti) Smith of Tipp city, Stephen D. Smith of Troy, and Danielle E. Bowen of Savannah, Ga.; and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson. 


Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Troy High School and was a homemaker all of her life.  She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. 


A graveside service will conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Miami Memorial Park, Covington with Chaplain Ed Ellis officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes, 1101 Kermit Drive #201, Nashville, TN   37217 or Hospice of Miami County, Inc.  P.O. RAYMOND C. SMITH 


Raymond C. Smith, 105, of 1068 Broadway, Piqua, died at 1:03 pm Sunday, July 11, 2010 at St. Leonard Health Care Center, Centerville.  He was born May 7, 1905 in Piqua to the late Lawrence S. and Mattie L. (Cyphers) Smith.  He married Ilene A. Hoopes May 29, 1928 in Covington; she preceded him in death January 28, 2000. 


Survivors include a daughter Marolyn J. Holloway of Dayton; a son James L. (Marilyn) Smith of Summerfield, Florida; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother Lloyd (Virginia) Smith of Piqua.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and a grandson. 


Mr. Smith was a 1923 graduate of Piqua Central High School and retired in 1965 as the Credit Manager for Gem City Finance of Dayton.  He was a member of the Piqua Lions Club, Warren Masonic Lodge #24, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, the Willowbrook Hunt Club, the former Evangelical United Methodist Church and currently the Piqua Salvation Army Citadel.  He was honored as the Miami County Senior Citizen of the Year, and a Grand Marshall of the Piqua Christmas Parade. 


A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday July 16, 2010 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne M. Fowler officiating.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home where a Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:00 pm.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Piqua Salvation Army, 129 S. JOHANNA M. WORTMAN 


Johanna M. Wortman, 72, of 221 W. Simpson St., Troy, died at 1:00 pm Sunday July 11, 2010 at the Upper Valley Medical Center.  She was born May 19, 1938 in Piqua to the late Willard Fries and Cecilia (Davidson) Fries Berk. 


Survivors include a son, Ronald (Annette) Mote of Piqua; three grandchildren, Roland Mote, Jessi Mote, Cameo Mote; and three great grandchildren, Rylan Mote, Coner Robinson, Jenysis Mote.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Judith D. Fries. 


Mrs. Wortman retired from Garden Gate Realty as a Real Estate Agent.  She was a member of the Troy Senior Citizens and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles of Troy.  


A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 pm Tuesday July 13, 2010 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 12:00-1:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Troy Senior Citizen Center, 134 N. SCOTT N. STEWART 


Scott N. Stewart, 22, of 128 Glenn St., Piqua, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2010, at his residence.  He was born July 25, 1987, in Springfield, to Lester Stewart of North Hampton and Kimberly (Bradley) Fallen of Springfield. 


Other survivors include three sisters, Sierra Rogers of Troy, Lacey Stewart of Springfield, and Tanya Rice of Springfield; and a brother, Rusty Levalley of Springfield. 


Scott attended the Miami Valley CTC and was a carpenter and home remodeler.

BETTY JEAN GRAY 


Betty Jean Gray, 92, of 212 S. Main St. Piqua, died at 1:00 am Tuesday July 6, 2010 at her residence.  She was born April 26, 1918 in Pleasant Hill to the late Irvin E. and Mary A. (Schulz) Whitman.  She married Elmer Gray September 23, 1935 in Winchester, Indiana; he preceded her in death January 12, 1981. 


Survivors include a daughter, Donna Carlon of Orlando, Florida; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Whitman. 


Mrs. Gray attended Newton Schools, retired from Aero Products of Dayton and was a homemaker.  She was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge #614 Auxiliary. 


A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday July 8, 2010 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. Andy Monnin officiating. MERCIA D. RICHARD 


Mercia D. Richard, 88, of 403 Kitt St., Piqua, died Friday, July 2, 2010 at 10:30 pm at the Koester Pavilion.  She was born September 2, 1921 in Bradford to the late Charles and Bessie (Miller) Sotell.  She married Clarence J. Richard June 10, 1939; he preceded her in death January of 1973. 


Survivors include two sons, Clarence (Vickie) Richard of Michigan, Jerry L. (Linda) Richard Sr. of Troy; three daughters, Judith Richard, Theresa Tipton and Barbara (Carl) Brush all of Piqua; twenty-four grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by three sons, Larry, George, and Michael Richard, and twelve brothers and sisters. 


Mrs. Richard worked for seventeen years at the Piqua Memorial Hospital as a linen clerk.  She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the YWCA of Piqua.  She will be remembered for her deep love for her faith and family. 


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at St. Boniface Catholic Church with Rev. Frs. Thomas J. Grilliot, Angelo C. Caserta, and Martin Fox as Con-Celebrants.  Burial will follow at Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford.  Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm Monday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home where a prayer service will be conducted at 4:00 pm.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation Western Ohio, 7523 Brandt Pike, Huber, Heights, OH 45424.  Condolences to the family may also be expressed through www.jamiesonandyannucci.com.

EARL E. HOFFMAN 


Earl E. Hoffman, 84, of 1045 Park Ave., Piqua, died Sunday June 27, 2010 at his residence.  He was born March 31, 1926 in South Webster to the late Pete and Bessie Hoffman.  He married Ruth A. Bays July 11, 1950 in South Webster; she preceded him in death January 23, 1998. 


Survivors include a daughter Deborah L. (Randall L.) Weaver of Piqua; a granddaughter Maggie (Vaughn) Atkinson; two great grandchildren; and a sister Madalene Rawlins of South Webster.  He was preceded in death by a brother. 


Mr. Hoffman worked at the former Val Decker Meat Processing Plant for thirty-four years, then Hobart Brothers in Troy where he retired following twelve years of service.

ALAN BRENT SNYDER 


Alan Brent Snyder, 69, formerly of 1555 Lexington Ave., Troy, died at 11:35 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2010, at Koester Pavilion, Troy.  He was born November 21, 1940, in Piqua, to the late Leonard and Ruth (Adams) Snyder.  He married Judith R. Leach on December 22, 1962 in Litchfield; she preceded him in death on June 21, 1989.  He then married Candise Chrisman on January 7, 2000 in Troy; she survives. 


Mr. Snyder is also survived by two sons, Scott (Jenifer) Snyder of Lafayette, Ind., and Mark Aaron (Debbie) Laux of Dublin; three daughters, Susan Lewis of Bowling Green, Mona (Tim) Anderson of Troy, and Heather (William) Smith of Troy; and ten grandchildren, Kristen, Ethan, Cody, Billy, Caleb, Drew, Rachel, Hannah, Isabella, and Chloe.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Snyder; and a grandson, Noah Anderson. 


Brent was a 1958 graduate of Piqua Central High School and attended Defiance College.  He served in the Army National Guard and was a former member of the Congregational Christian United Church of Christ.  He was also a former member of the Piqua Kiwanis Club, and worked for the Piqua Daily Call, Troy Daily News, and retired from Paxar Graphics. 


A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Murdock officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2808 Reading Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45206; or Ohio Parkinson Foundation, 325 N. EARL T. STEINER 


Earl T. Steiner, 82, of 8165 Woodlawn Dr., Piqua, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Upper Valley Medical Center.  He was born November 8, 1927, in Hillsdale County, Michigan, to the late Benjamin H. and Rhoda E. (France) Steiner.  He married Phyllis J. Fackler on June 12, 1954 in Piqua; she preceded him in death on October 16, 2006. 


Mr. Steiner is survived by a son, Thomas (Cori) Steiner of Houston; two daughters, Ellen Steiner of Amelia, and Sue (Stuart) Collins of Westerville; and four grandchildren, Kevin Collins, Emily Collins, Jonathan Steiner, and Reagan Steiner.  He was preceded in death by a brother, James P. Steiner; and a stepsister, Virginia Denman. 


Earl was a 1945 graduate of Piqua Central High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a graduate of The Ohio State University and the Air Force Institute of Technology.  He had worked for Cargill in Findlay and retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1992.  He was a member of Piqua Baptist Church and former member of the former Evangelical United Methodist Church.  Earl was also a member of the Gideons of Piqua, the Miami County Historical & Genealogical Society, and Warren Lodge #24 Free & Accepted Masons. 


A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 25, at the Piqua Baptist Church with Rev. Donald R. Wells officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home, where a Masonic Service will be conducted at 7 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Piqua Baptist Church, 1402 W. RUTH ELLEN BOGGS 


Ruth Ellen Boggs, 88, formerly of 437 Wood St., Piqua, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 in Coventry, Rhode Island, where she had resided with her daughter for the last 12 years.  She was born April 30, 1922, in Piqua, to the late Bert and Caroline M. (Shuey) McMaster.  She married Kenneth L. Boggs on July 21, 1942 in Bradford; he preceded her in death on May 20, 1993.  


Survivors include a daughter, Vicki (William) Noon of Coventry, R.I.; two sons, Kenneth Boggs of East Liverpool, and James (Joyce) Boggs of Beaver, Penn.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two brothers; and a great-grandson, Elijah M. Collins. 


Mrs. Boggs was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Brethren. 


A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 25, at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev.
